RE: missing generator cover

There is no way the cover can come off with the compartment door closed so it has to be the dealer's fault.. I'd ask the dealer to make it whole.
Oh, and next time.. Check before you pull off the lot
Two sources of the covers
1: RV-Salvage places
2: ONAN

RE: I had my first tire blowout on classA

I got lucky when my outside dual got sliced
I mean.. Traffic was moving right along, People on foot were passing us it was moving so fast (Meaning I hit perhaps 5mph tops) so no secondary damage.
Alas... That is very unusuall

RE: Water Pressure Damage

There are basically 3 classes of pressure regulators for RV's. This does not count "Built in" regulators (I do not know how to classify them
1: Standard RV-Pressure regulators.. AKA JUNK, forget 'em, they restrict the flow way too much.
2: "High Flow" RV-type pressure regulators.. ALMOST good enough, might be good enough if you have say an Oxygenics shower head
3: WATTS type "Whole House" regulators HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
In the first two cases you can get 'em with and with out pressure adjustment and with and without meters
Types 1 and 2 are cylinders (With optional meter sticking out) that have a male hose fitting on one end and a female on the other, The "High-Flow" ones normally have a brightly colored plastic "Grip" on the female end to distinguish them from the standard.
The "Watts" type is a large brass device, the top looks a bit like a bell (And in fact is called a "Bell Housing" and has a bolt sticking out of it (Pressure adjust) Set for 40-50 PSI at the outlet.
Proper sequence is
Park-Spigot-Regulator-Long hose-Filter-Short hose-Rig
Optional sequence (Better) is
Park-Spigot-Regulator 1 (60-70PSI)--Long hose-Filter-Short hose-45PSI regulator-RIG
That way you have a bit of PUSH to overcome filter resistance

RE: Looking for Dimmer Bulbs?

IN fact, a 12 volt lamp dimmer is nothing more than a rehostat, An old heater fan speed control (I DID SAY OLD) is also a rehostat, I don't know if it has enough resistance to do the job but.. It might.
you can also get dash-lamp dimmers such as the one used on the Chevy Lumina APV in 1992, it's also a rehostat

RE: water filter - mini water treatment plant?

If you got to a backpacker store such as REI or Gander Mountain
You will see a lot of fliters, Read the warnings on the boxes.
There is nothing I can add to what they say

Analog/Digital tv comparison

Several times here I've heard people complain that they simply can not (yet) get digital TV where they are
I've also heard how Digital uses lower power transmitters and thus won't have the range of the higher power analog.
And.. I have a pair of screen shots. both are of the same station (WJRT TV 12-Flint Michigan) both are taken in the same place (Where I'm currently parked in Davision, Michigan) Both are using the SAME antenna (Batwing on the motor home) One is 12-0 (The analog transmitter) and the other is 12-1 (Digital tier 1)
They can be found at
RVFORUM.NET
You may need to provide a free registration
The difference.. Is kind of great
The only difference between the two is the ACCESS HD digital converter that is in the line on the digital shot

RE: Crime Report in Michigan Campgounds... !!!

Well... As you know (From my name and profile) I do not have a T-Shirt that says "I'm so bad I vacation in Detroit"
You see.. I'm badder than that.. I vacation FROM Detroit!!!!
On a serious note.. I'm currently parked at a membership campground in Davision, Michigan, (East of Flint 3 miles off I-69) and the manager warned us of theft of Grills and Bicycles (my bicycle is chained to my bed.. (Well, the slide out cable for the bed slide) with a nice aircraft grade cable and lock.
I have stayed in one of the CG's mentioned, Hartwick Pines, and woke up my first night there to find I'd lost my breakfast (Lunch and dinner) would have been nice if I'd had a chance to eat it first.. Nocturnal visitors of the 2-legged 4-wheeled kind had visited and swiped all my cold food. They got lawn chairs, grills, and other coolers as well.
All in all it was a good stay and I'd do it again. But now I lock up at night
Campgrounds are communities.. And like ALL communities with the possible exeception of "Capitol Hills".. They have good people and they have, shall we say "not so good" people (Finding the good ones on Capitol Hills can be tough)
The good news is Detroit is getting a new Mayor soon (less than 2 weeks)
(If you wish my opinion of the resigning one.. Please purchase a fire extinguisher, You will need it)

RE: valve stem failure

I had that happen on my Junk trailer.. I replaced the rubber valve stems with nice METAL ones (Chrome, "Hot Rod" types) from Pep Boys.
Nary a problem since

RE: CHEAP Propane!

I paid 2.79 in Flint, no delivery charge, Parker's Propane
Beats 4.00 at U-Haul, and that beats the 25 bucks just to fill the tank here at the CG

I have never heard of it either.. And I like the way you phrased what you might well ask the person asking for the title to do.. That was very good :)
(Wonder how many either 1: Had to google the verb, or 2: Just said "What is he talking about?")

RE: Water Pressure Damage

1: Why I bought a WATTS regulator (As you did, I've been to a park that spiked to 120 PSI, no damage in my rig,, But then my "Water system" consisted of a close pipe nipple, an "inlet" and a spigot, nothing else, on that rig)
2: The water was most likely coming out the TPR valve.. in this case think tPr
Temperature, PRESSURE, relief
People often speak of this valve dripping as the water heats.. Very few of the people who speak of this have pressure regulators in the supply line and nearly all of'em are on city water when it happens.

RE: GPS Question ??????

Dang near all of 'em My Garmin E-Trex does, And if you get a laptop computer (Or if you have one) and get any of the popular map/GPS bundles (Mickey Soft Streets & Trips, Rand-Mcnally, Co-Pilot, Delorem and such, spelling in question) then they will too, and they have a much nicer On Screen Map too (BIGGER in other words)
Oh, and if you don't mind last year's maps.. You can get one HECK of a price (300 worth of Co-Pilot for like 80 bucks in some cases)

RE: What do I need to run 2 PC's on 1 aircard

I thought Windows had "Internet Sharing" built in so you would not have to buy anything. Am I wrong again?
No, you are right.. However
1: Internet sharing requires the HOST be on for the Client to work
2: It is a female of the canine species to set up
(Look up the proper title for a dog's mother)

I would suggest the chepeast they have with data-out, then a nice laptop such as a Leveno THINKPAD with a good maping software
or just skip the Garmin and get the bundled USB dongle

RE: Looking for Dimmer Bulbs?

You need a good bulb catalog.. I recall the good old days when we had Lafayette and Allied and Olson electronics, All 3 had good bulb listings.
Let me check and see if I have a bulb listing here (I do but it does not list a 1076)
Candidates are 1034 and alas that is the only dual contact 12 volt bulb I have listed (I think it's a lot like the one you have now)
You can also get LED lamp assemblies from places that specialize in LED lighting. They can make 'em with 10, 20, 40, 80 leds, the more leds the more light. (NOTE: other quanities are made as well, the numbers above are examples)
I'm thinking of making my own 50 led arrays for some lamps one of these days

RE: Overheated Optima Battery

The major disadvantages of OPTIMA batteries for RVers are
1: Higher cost
2: Lower capacity (For any given size group)
Other than that they are fairly standard AGM batteries, generally of top quality, nothing wrong with 'em save you are paying more and getting less. There is NO advantage to them in an RV over say a LIFELINE, MK or DEKA AGM battery.. All of which have more capacity for the same size group
Why the smaller capacity.. Well, lay the old mark one Eyeball on an optima, See all that space that is NOT battery (it's air).. That's why.
So... Why do they sell Optimas?
Well, imagine a wave runner slamming over the waves, or an ATV slamming over ruts nad such in an open field.. The batteries are taking a serious beating (As is the operator) OPTIMAS excell in this. They can "Take a physical licking and keep on ticking" as Timex used to say of their watches.
other batteries do not fare as well in this type of service
However.. .When was the last time you did that kind of thing with your motor home? (never I hope)
Oh, Optimas, like ALL AGM batteries like a very slightly LOWER charging voltage than flooded wet cells.. If you have a Converter set for Flooded Wet Cells.. You may be slightly overcharging them
However the difference is like 0.2 volts IIRC (About a diode)

RE: New TV + Old Antenna = No Picture?

I will assume the antenna is a Winegard Sensor (What we often call the "Batwing" antenna) If so then I will make additional assumptions
IN your trailer, near the TV position is a standard wall plate (You know like an outlet or wall switch in your house will have as a cover) only this one has
1: 12 volt outlet (large "hole")
1: Antenna connector (Just like the one on the back of the TV)
1: BUTTON
1: LED Light (one on each side)
Push the button. Does the light come one?
IF so then go to the TV's SETUP menu, choose ANTENNA and do a channel scan
NOTE: Some digital ready televisions have TWO antenna jacks on the back.. BOTH must be connected (use a splitter, you can get one at many stores from Dollar stores to Radio shack,, Most all of 'em work)
Other digital ready TV's have said splitter built in and do not need one.
Let us know
Now: if the light does not light... You have a blown fuse, busted wire or other electrical problem. You will have to trouble shoot
Now: if the light is on and the TV still does not work, then you most likely have a cable fault somewhere. Check all connections on the antenna cable (The cable that runs from the wall plate to the TV and the cable like it up on the roof)

RE: Need help with inverter

My thought is you did a fairly good job of describing exactly what I'd expect with an MSW inverter (Radio loud roar, on AM no doubt, 107 volts) not a TSW inverter (Radio normal operation, 120 volts+/-5)
